Should I choose Linux or Windows for my hosting Platform?

Traditionally Linux has been the platform of choice for hosting reliable websites due to the stability of the operating system (OS) however this is now a thing of the past. The Windows hosting platform has steadily gained ground on Linux and is the choice platform for many developers.

The choice between Linux or Windows is now based upon what scripting language you choose for your site development and whether you are using open source packages. The following guidelines will help you choose the right platform for your hosting.

  • If your website is an ASP or .NET application then you must choose the Windows platform as this is not supported on Linux. 
  • If your website needs .htaccess or mod_rewrite then choose Linux
  • If your website is primarily PHP and MySQL then Linux is recommended, however speed and performance will be matched on Windows

After a lot of research and price comparison (and experience in web hosting
